What is it about the Holidays and December in particular that bring out the best in us? People are more cheerful, quicker to smile. Once the shopping is done that is. Until then, they are a harried lot, going from store to store, looking for that perfect something for someone special.

capital_bride_ARe 200 x 300But once that shopping is done, everyone is like a Who in Whoville and happy all the time. Not that they stop doing things but now its decorating and wrapping and drinking eggnog and wassail. Christmas or Hanukah or Kwanza or whatever you celebrate, brings out the best of us. We look at our friends and loved ones with a little more heart, more acceptance of tiny flaws. More love.

I love the holidays. It’s a time of giving and sharing and being happy in our own skin. What do you love about the holidays?

  1. What I love about the holiday season is getting together with my family and friends. Watching the holiday season unfold from the eyes of my grandkids. This year will be special as we are in a new home and we have a 7mo old granddaughter having her first Christmas this year. She is facinated with the lights. Merry Chirstmas.

  2. I love that during the holidays people are so friendly and considerate of others. You walk down the street and people smile at you and say hello. If you’re driving, people will let you in if you’re trying to change lanes. In the stores people smile at each other as they pass each other. The holidays seem to bring out the best of everyone and I love that.

  3. By far the best thing I love about the holidays is being with family. Last year we lost three, but this year we gained a grandson. He’s 8 months old. Because he already has so many toys, his parents have asked for books with a note written in them to him so that they become keepsakes. This morning I got down my childhood books, and oh, the memories attached to them. Priceless. So they will be passed on.

  4. My favorite time of the Holidays is on Christmas morning when the little ones toddle in like miniature Frankensteins learning to walk. The look in their eyes as they see presents and lights and the smiles on mom and dad’s face. Gifts don’t have to be expensive, just from the heart. Sometimes, kids get a bigger thrill playing in the box the toy came in. Kids just have a purity and innocence about them that reminds me Christmas is for kids.

  5. favorite part of the holidays is the possibilities that THIS year will have more memorable moments. I miss having little people at home who delight in boxes and wrapping paper as much as the present inside – so I love seeing videos and photos of those moments with friend’s children and grandchildren. Thank you for participating!

  6. My favorite part of Christmas has to be the Christmas lights. I love the colors, the way they make me feel like a kid again when I see them. I love landing in a plane at night because the different color lights on the ground remind me of Christmas lights. Weird I know! I guess you could say I like sparkle and bling!

  7. I love the sense of continuity the holidays give me. It’s a time for family, and as everyone gathers together, we remember times past and loved ones who are still with us in spirit. Once you escape all the holiday madness, you get to take time to savor life and your friends and family. We should all really do that more often year-round.

  8. It’s so magical that we can create a sense of wholeness, of joy, and pleasurable anticipation for our children. I also love to craft homemade gifts, and the process of making them is joyful for me, so it is really a gift given twice!

  9. I enjoy the cooking and baking. I LOVE the candy making! I’m not so fond of the clean-up. I tend to make a huge mess in the kitchen when it’s candy making time. 🙂

  10. Christmas is my fave time of the year! I love looking at lights, and the smell of pine everywhere. I love scarves and uggs, fires in the fire palce. I love buying gifts for all of my family members, and watching their faces when they open them… Christmas to me feels like a happy ever after at the end of a good book, I just feel warm and fuzzy! 😉

  11. I love everything about the holidays. The lights, the music, the FOOD! But, I have two little guys, so my favorite thing ever has got to be watching the excitement on their faces the closer we get to Christmas.

  17. Every year we host what I refer to as an orphan’s Christmas eve open house. Thirty-eight people with nowhere to go, no family to spend the evening with, or family too far away to make it feasible, come here and be part of our family. Everyone goes home with a gift and for some, it’s the only gift they’ll receive. This year is the 20th open house and to celebrate, we’re launching sky lanterns to send our wishes off into the world.

  18. I love baking with my kids. Taking pictures of their faces as they try to sneak the goodies while they think I am not looking. Priceless time spent together!

  19. I love–almost–all of the season (I can do without the increasing commercialization.) But the excitment, the joy, the smiles and greetings among perfect strangers, the feelings of sharing and being a part of something greater–all of those and more are so special this time of the year.

  21. I love how people are nicer to each other. How they take time to try and help and care about others who are less fortunate, They stop and think about who is special in their lives. They spend more time with each other.

  24. I love everything to do with the holidays. I feel just a little bit rejuvenated which I’m sure sounds strange. lol But my favorite, upon favorite time is spending time with my kids. I don’t care what it is as long as we are together.

  25. My favorite part of the holidays is watching all the young kids rip open their presents. Not my kid, she is already grown up and out of the house, which may be why I enjoy it so much! LOL

Thanks for the great giveaways and being a part of the hop.

  28. I love the house decorating, although due to illness I did none, not even a tree. I like to stuff stockings and drive around to look at decorations and watch some of my favorite movies with the family.
