The Alpha Male – take him or leave him

What is an Alpha Male?

We all love to read about an Alpha male. Our best heroes are Alpha males. But in real life would we really want our men to be totally Alpha? Do we really want a guy that takes charge of everything? Probably not. A true Alpha male would not allow us or our heroine to have our own lives. To do and be what we need to be.

Sure, in our books an alpha hero is great. We want him to take charge and keep our heroine safe but in the best books he also has a soft side. A heart that we can reach. A part of him that is not alpha but is as vulnerable as the rest of us. He wouldn’t be our hero without the part of him that we can capture and hold close to our own hearts.

A perfect Alpha male is tough and gentle, hard and soft, stern and giving. He’s all the things we need him to be. He cares for us but allows us our freedom to become all we can be. He loves us enough to let us spread our wings and fly without him, knowing all the while that he’s there to pick us up after we fall and will protect us with his life if we need him to.

What is your idea of an Alpha male and would you want to marry one? Or like me do you want a man who is the best of both the Alpha and the non-alpha male.

  1. You ask if I would marry one, well, I already did. He has a wonderful take charge attitude , is strong, intelligent, witty, and has a soft edge as well. That is part of the reason why I fell for him. Thanks for the great giveaways!

  2. You either get the whole deal of Alpha Male, or you get a Beta. There is no middle ground. The women who truly appreciates me knows the meaning of sacrifice and love for me, and puts me ahead of her own needs.

I am being blessed with the knowledge, courage and guts that it takes to be the Alpha, and I reap all the benefits from it. I have my soft side, I have my boundaries too, but I always come first. Because that is what I am.

  3. I agree with your description of the perfect Alpha. I think most women want a strong, confident man, but not someone too bossy or who acts like a robot. He has to have that softer side and emotion, even if he doesn’t show it in public.

  4. I love reading about the alpha males, but my husband is definitely more Beta, quite happy with him just as he is.

  5. I love to read about alpha males but I don’t think I could live with one. When I read about them I want them strong, protective and in charge.

  6. I, too love reading about alpha males, but I don’t think I could handle one all the time. My husband is alpha when I need him to be, but not all the time.

  8. I love reading about a true Alpha but in real life I would want the mixture of both Alpha and Beta.

  9. I love alpha males in books, but in real life I think too many of the men that try to be alpha males are actually just jerks. I would love to meet one that proves me wrong though. πŸ™‚

  10. I do love to read alpha males in my books, but I think it stops there. Ha, there’s no way I could stand marriage to one. I’d have to be the alpha in that relationship. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the giveaway, Cindy.

  11. Your idea of the perfect alpha is pretty dead on actually and if I wasn’t already married, and that “Perfect” alpha existed and was interested in me, I’d marry him in a heartbeat!
Thanks for being part of the blog hop and for your giveaway. Best wishes and continued success

  12. Greetings,

Doing the Alpha Male blog hop….oh yeah! Iβ€˜m excited to be a part of this hop! Wow, 200+ authors—a perfect opportunity to meet new authors! It’s always fun trying to visit as many sites as possible.

I love alpha heroes who are take charge men! They are loyal, loving and caring men. They usually have sexy looks, brains, money and a commanding presence that draws people. When they find their mates and fall in love they will move heaven and earth to stake their claim. This is exciting to watch even when they are not sure why they have to have or be with this particular person. An awesome love dance! It’s definitely addicting to read.

Thanks for the opportunity to win some great prizes.

  13. I love reading stories with alpha males but I don’t think I would want to be married to a pure alpha. I prefer a perfect mix of alpha and beta traits.

  14. I’d definitely marry one!

Alpha males are the best….strong, independent, fiercely protective, but on the inside they are nothing but a big ol’ teddy bear! I love the way their mouths talk filthy, but their eyes portray their sensitive sweet. They can be rough and tough in the bedroom, but still have the gentle caress of an attentive and protective lover. It’s all in the heart…..alpha males are the best!

Thanks for participating in the hop!

  15. I’m not sure, I don’t think I’ve ever met a guy like that in real life so I’m not sure how it would work – I love them in books though πŸ™‚

  16. Why I love Alpha Males is no real surprise! The perfect Alpha Male for me could be a Vampire, a Scottish Laird, an English Rogue/Gentleman, a Werewolf or Shape-shifter, or a Knight. He’s the rogue who thinks he can’t be reformed into a gentleman. He’s the rough and scarred Scottish laird that has a heart of gold. He’s the werewolf or shape-shifter that needs to heal an aching heart because it took him years to find his true mate. He’s the vampire who has waited decades for that special someone’s blood to sing to him and wake him up. And he’s the knight who can defeat the enemy with a quick swing of his sword, but can’t see the love in front of his face. My Alpha Male has eyes that can see into your soul and are as blue as the sea, or as black as a storm. He’s tall and brooding. His heart can enfold you into its grasp and make you fall in love when he gives it to you freely and completely. He is protective and passionate. In the end he is the one that makes your heart jump and butterflies fly in your stomach, and still kiss you until your legs melt!

  18. I have my very own alpha male, and it’s wonderful that he takes charge and I don’t have to worry about things. He’s protective and takes care of me, and yes, expects to be the center of attention. He has the power to command any room he’s in. πŸ™‚

  19. I love my Alpha Males. They keep me coming back for more.
I Love how protective they are of their woman even when they KNOW she can kick some major ass.
Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win.

  20. An alpha is confident. He knows his strengths & weaknesses. He is protective of those he loves. Woud I marry an alpha? I already did.

    Wolphcall(at)bellsouth(dot)net

  21. I married an Alpha. He’s smart and always there to take charge and help. Not just in the family but he’s always helping the neighbors with everything to make sure things are great for every one around us making it even more amazing around us. I just love their take charge attitude and how protective they get of ALL those around them. But they definitely have a hierarchy of who comes first. Which in my case is me and the kids. πŸ™‚ Alpha’s are great! xstitchdiva at att dot net

  22. I definitely would marry an Alpha. An Alpha for me is a man who has the take charge attitude, inner strength and also compassion, tenderness, loyalty and a great sense of humor.
    Thanks for the opportunity.

  23. I married an alpha male – an Egyptian. His family is part of the Coptic minority, but he’s got all the afflictions of a patriarchal society burned into him. However, that comes with so many benefits that it’s worth the frustrations. And the best part is that even though no one would ever guess, when it comes to me he’s all tender-hearted. Eighteen years of marriage and counting, gotta love those alpha males! (janesadek@gmail.com)

  24. I love alphas πŸ™‚ They are strong, possessive, protective, and most of them are beautifully flawed. Their gentleness is swoon-worthy too! πŸ™‚

I have an alpha at home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way πŸ™‚

Thanks for a great giveaway! πŸ™‚

  25. Loving the awesome blog hop!
So many new books I want to read!
Alpha Males are my fav! So, dominate and fun to tease. And when they talk feelings they mean every word! And heck yeah I will marry him when I find him!

    grapeapril75 at gmail dot com

  26. I think the best of both worlds is definitely best! I like alphas~<3 Very sexy! But would I personally want one ALL the time? Nope, lol, because sometimes they just don't know when to let up and lax on that possessive hold. Thank you for the giveaway!

    MostlyMisha[at]gmail[dot]com

  27. I love alpha males because they can be strong and a tease. However, they shouldn’t be all controlling. I need some room to breathe. lol

  30. I love when an Alpha is determined, strong and protective as well as charming, caring and creative..
Thanks for sharing and being a part of the hop

  31. I love an Alpha, but you have to be one strong woman to stand up to that kind of power. I’m not a fan of weak men. If I feel I could take the guy down or best him physically, I struggle to be attracted. Okay, I’m a little gal and this shouldn’t be tough for a man to be tougher than me, but I’ve been very surprised to find too many uber sensitive wimps. Not heroic at all.
My favorite hero is Jamie Fraser in Gabaldon’s OUTLANDER series. He’s got it all. Write a version of that, and I will loyally read everything you put out.
I need to write that hero!

  32. I don’t like being told what to do, so I don’t know if I could marry a true alpha. I want to marry an equal partner. However, I like the alpha characteristics of strength, intelligence, protectiveness, and loyalty.
    marlenebreakfield(at)yahoo(dot)com

  33. I think that I’d be like you and want a man from both sides. I want a man that tough and alpha but really loveable on the inside. But I do think that if I found the right alpha, I’d marry him. Thanks for being a part of the hop. I hope that you have a great week.
    jessangil (at) gmail (dot) com

  34. I love alpha males who are strong, sexy, and protective of those they love. Bones from the Night Huntress is one of my favorites. In real life, I think my husband is a good mix of alpha and non-alpha.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
    snhoveln (at) gmail (dot) com

  35. My ideal alpha is Xavier (from my Existence series). I wouldn’t want to marry him. (I leave that for Wend… if she says yes…)

I am also quite partial to Dr. Gregory House (of the tv show House M.D.), Sheriff Carter (of the tv show Eureka), and Chief (from “The Laughing Man” in JD Salinger’s Nine Stories).

Wouldn’t marry any of them either. LOL.

    j.lennidorner AT facebook DOT com

    • That’s interesting. I wouldn’t have put Sheriff Carter in with the Alpha’s but I think you are right. He is a take charge kind of guy but he does have his warm fuzzy side. I’d marry him in a heartbeat.

  36. I don’t mind reading about alpha males, but, ugh, no way would I want to marry one. My husband is right for me. He has no objections if I do what I want to do. I’d be stir-crazy is someone wanted to tell me what to do.
